On paper this was Northern's toughest game of the season and it turned out to be their toughest on grass too. Opening bowlers Clarke and Parkins started badly and things got worse. Not until Chedzoy started fizzing some deliveries at left-hander Harry's toes did the run rate slow up and import player Hope was finding the boundary with alarming regularity. Hood was the sole wicket-taker as he caught a return effort and Hope finished on 89 but was dropped 3 times on his way there. Neil Thomas' first over of the season saw him despatched twice into the changing room area as Hope launched the ball to all parts. 147-1 looks bad and it was but it was on the lower end of CCCC's totals this season

Vaile and Hood started well and took the score along to 27-0 when Hood was bowled for 19. At the point the carnage began. Ben Horlock was bowled first ball before he was followed by Vaile, Gerrard, Willacott, Jones, Chedzoy and Thomas. The only run scored in this period was a solitary wide leaving Manley going in following 7 ducks and score being on 28-8. Manley picked up a single before Perkins was bowled and a couple more wides followed before Clarke was also bowled. Northerns innings consisted of 8 ducks and all ten wickets fell for 4 runs.
