Northern 3 Inter Graig 1 Trelai, 3rd September Starting
XI Inter Graig started with a different front pair to the cup game the previous week and started the stronger but Northern were able to soak up the pressure and took the lead after a Carl Manley corner was bundled in at the back post with Nick Ball claiming the final touch. Northern then picked up their own game but a lack of quality passing between the attacking players meant they were mostly restricted to long range efforts and individual breaks. Carl Manley had a long range effort parried by the keeper and Stephen Mustey followed up but was unable to hit the target after working himself a shooting chance. Gareth Fundalski hit the bar on stroke of half time and like last week the score was 1-0 at the break. Craig Palfrey and David Abley came on at half time for Andrew Kingman and Luke Haggert and for a time Northern managed to work some good attacking opportunities but could not break through. Carl Manley was found out wide by Mustey and after skipping past the fullback whiped a cross to the far post that was headed in by Fundalski. Inter Graig raised their game and comical defending from Fundalski and Gavin Bishop resulting in Carl French conceding a free-kick on the edge of the box which was chipped over the wall and and drifted over Mark Manley who was rooted to the spot. Northern had a blatant penalty appeal turned down when Mustey cut into the box and after Inter Graig had put another free-kick wide Phil Gough came on for Nick Ball. Gough had a good chance tipped wide before linking well with Bishop who crossed from the left for Mustey who side stepped a defender and drilled it high past the keeper for 3-1. Northern then closed up shop for the remainder of the game and full time soon arrived. Subs: David Abley, Craig
